All race car drivers have an urge to go fast and compete with others on the track. However, KVRA driver Matt Moore, driver of the number 37 car, has a mission that's more compelling and more important than the racing bug.

Matt, son of KVRA founder Mark Moore, surrendered to God's calling to preach about a year ago.

"We are pleased to announce that a few weeks ago the congregation at Tilden Baptist Church in Tilden, Kentucky, unanimously voted for Matt to be their Pastor," Matt's dad said.

Matt also works full-time as a welder.

"We're very proud of Matt and we know the Lord will do a great work in his life at Tilden Baptist Church," Mark said. "We're fortunate to have him racing with us and wish him all the best in his endeavors."

PADUCAH -- Paducah International Raceway, which was slated to be the site of four straight Friday nights of racing for Kentucky Vintage Racing Association, announced Thursday that it has canceled races on Aug. 31 and Sept. 7, 14 and 21 and will conclude the year's racing with its season championship event on Sept. 28.

The reason for the cancelation is that the pond on the southern end of the track property, which provides the water for irrigating the track before each week's racing program, has suffered from the drought and extremely hot temperatures and, according to track officials, is nearly dry.

The matter is in all likelihood moot for this weekend, with forecasts of up to 84 percent chance of rain and storms as the remnant of Hurricane Isaac makes its way toward the heartland after making landfall Wednesday on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana and Mississippi. Several high school football games have been moved up from Friday night to Thursday night because of concerns about imclement weather on Friday.

But the decision leaves KVRA competitors hanging. As of now, KVRA president Mark Moore said the vintage cars will run at Paducah on Sept. 28. Moore said he has also scheduled a race on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Western Kentucky Speedway in Nebo. Other late additions to the schedule are being discussed with other track operators.

Management of PIR arranged to have the vintage cars race on the four canceled dates less than two weeks ago when the track made an adjustment in the schedule it had posted at the beginning of the season, which called for an open date on Sept. 21 and the season finale on Sept. 28. The open date was to avoid competition with Paducah's Barbecue on the River festival, but the festival is going to be Sept. 28, not Sept. 21. The original plan called for KVRA to compete this week and Sept. 14.

The schedule announced two weeks ago moved the season finale to Sept. 21.

KVRA to race at Paducah 4 straight Friday nights

PADUCAH, Ky. - Kentucky Vintage Racing Association's old-school coupes and sedans will compete in the last four weeks of racing at Paducah International Raceway.
The events originally slated for Aug. 31 and Sept. 14 remain on schedule, with races added on Sept. 7 and Sept. 21. The Sept. 7 racing program at the 3/8-mile high-banked track will feature the vintage cars in a 15-lap feature.
PIR has revised its 2012 schedule, moving its season championship season finale from Sept. 28 to Sept. 21.
Paducah's annual Barbecue on the River festival is slated for Sept. 28.
KVRA president Mark Moore discussed the possibility of adding more races to the schedule prior to Friday night's race at PIR.
Other events will be announced as they may be added.

It was the second win in a row for Moore, the wins coming before and after a summer break during which the series was idle on the weekends of Aug. 3-5 and 10-12. Moore won Saturday night, July 28, at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway.

Moore rules at Clarksville

Dave Davidson and Mark Moore were feature winners in the first double-feature weekend of the year for Kentucky Vintage Racing Association. Davidson won for the second time in a row at Paducah International Raceway Friday night, while Moore had a dominant victory in the series' first visit of the year to Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway on Saturday.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Mark Moore led from flag to flag in the feature Saturday night at the ΒΌ-mile Clarksville Speedway to claim his fifth Kentucky Vintage Racing Association feature of the season.

Dave Davidson finished second.

Moore and Davidson started on the front row after finishing 1-2 in the second heat.

Four of the nine cars on hand for the night's action were scratched from the feature starting lineup after an attrition-filled pair of heat races.

A three-car tangle in the first heat eliminated the cars of Steve Alexander and his son, Nick, and a two-car shunt in the second heat sidelined the cars of Matt Moore and Dennis English.

In the feature, Matt Moore took over the No. 39 Ford driven in the first heat by Corky Broughton, who continued and finished third after he was involved in the chain-reaction incident with Steve and Nick Alexander. Moore took third place in the feature.

Shaun Spann won the first heat with his father, Rick, second.
