Davidson gets first win of 2012 at PIR

PADUCAH, Ky. - Dave Davidson made one mistake Friday night in the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association feature. He slipped high in Turns 1-2 and saw Mark Moore sprint past him on the inside.

However, a yellow flag erased the pass and restored Davidson to the lead. On the restart, Davidson kept his 1933 Plymouth sedan on the inside and drove on to victory.

Moore, who was seeking a third straight victory, settled for second.

The night's racing was marred by a hard crash by driver Pat Halvorson of Paducah, who tangled in a battle with Steve Alexander for the lead in the first heat. Halvorson's 1941 Ford coupe went hard into the concrete wall at the exit of Turn 2, climbed the barrier and came back down to the track on the driver's side.

Halvorson was shaken up, but not injured. Alexander restarted and drove on to victory, then took fourth place in the feature.

Dennis English took third in the feature, with Matt Moore chasing Alexander to the finish and rounding out the top five.

Mark Moore won the second heat.

2nd straight win for Moore at PIR

PADUCAH, Ky. - Mark Moore figured to have a fight on his hands in the 10-lap feature Saturday night at Paducah International Raceway after he and Rich Gardner battled side by side for most of the first two laps of the race, with Moore's brother, Mike, challenging in third.

But on the backstretch of the second lap, the night ended abruptly for Gardner and the third-place Moore.

The engine in Gardner's 1940 Chevy coupe exploded as the three cars reached their peak speed. Mark Moore made an evasive move on the high side. Mike Moore went low, his momentum carrying him into a temporary lead, but the right front tire on his 1934 Ford sedan was punctured by debris from Gardner's engine, and both drivers limped into the infield.

Shaun Spann moved into second place while Moore pulled ahead, with Matt Moore moving in to challenge the runner-up. Moore managed to get past Spann just before the right front tire failed on Spann's 1948 Pontiac sedan. The car spun in Turn 3, and the flat tire dug into the track, snapping the right front suspension and bringing out a caution flag.

On the restart, Matt Moore challenged his father for the lead, but was unable to make the pass. He finished second, ahead of Steve Alexander, Rick Spann and Tommy Phillips.

Alexander and Gardner were heat race winners.

Mark Moore takes checkers at PIR

PADUCAH, Ky. - Mark Moore, second to his brother Mike in the KVRA season opener April 6, took the lead on the first lap and led the rest of the way to win Friday night's 10-lap feature at Paducah International Raceway.

Moore had finished third behind Rich Gardner and Dave Davidson in the second heat and started on the inside of the second row behind those two.

But he drove underneath both front-row starters at the start, pulled ahead down the backstretch and took the checkered flag about four car lengths in front of Gardner.

Davidson and Mike Moore was third and fourth and Shaun Spann nipped Dennis English for fifth at the finish.

Rick Spann won the first heat.

The next race on the schedule for the vintage stock cars is Friday, May, at the 3/8-mile high-banked Paducah oval.

Mike Moore outduels brother for PIR victory

PADUCAH, Ky. - Brothers Mike and Mark Moore staged a heated battle for the lead all 10 laps, with elder brother Mike prevailing in the season-opening KVRA feature Friday night at Paducah International Raceway.

The two started side-by-side on the front row with the winner's No. C7 1934 Ford sedan on the pole. They stayed in much the same position, wheel to wheel, for much of the race in a highly entertaining battle.

The C7 led at the start-finish line on nine of the 10 laps, but Mark Moore's 1934 Chevy coupe got is nose ahead by just inches on the fifth lap.

Dave Davidson held third place all the way in a 1933 Plymouth sedan. Fourth went to Matt Moore, Mark Moore's son, in a 1937 Chevy coupe. Steve Alexander rounded out the top five in a 1932 Chevy coupe.

Rick Spann and Mike Moore were heat race winners.

The next race on the schedule for the vintage stock cars is Friday, April 20, at the 3/8-mile high-banked Paducah oval.

2012 Schedule Includes 13 Dates At PIR

The schedule of events for KVRA competitors begins on Friday, April 6, at Paducah International Raceway.

KVRA president Mark Moore has released the schedule of events for the vintage stock cars at the 3/8-mile dirt oval, which opens its season on Friday, March 30. KVRA is scheduled to compete as an addition to the program on a schedule of approximately every other Friday.

Changes in the PIR schedule or additions of races at other venues will be announced as they are confirmed.

I would like to invite everyone to come out and support the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association in 2012 and your local race tracks. I am formulating the permanent schedule for 2012and it should be completed in the next couple of weeks.

I am pleased to announce the return of David Green as Race Director for Kentucky Vintage Racing Association. David has changed jobs in the last couple of years and this has allowed him to get involved again with KVRA. I am excited to make this announcement. David will be a great asset to our racing events as he was in the past. We would like to encourage anyone wanting to get involved in dirt stockcar racing to consider the vintage series. It is the most affordable and exciting series around. I look forward to seeing everyone at the track in the next few weeks.

KVRA's 2011 Season Starts Soon

Kentucky Vintage Racing Association will begin the 2011 season at Paducah International Raceway on Friday night, April 1st. We are expecting a good turnout, and we are looking forward to another exciting season of vintage stock car racing in the Western Kentucky area. We are expecting the return of some of our veteran drivers like Dennis English, Dave Davidson, Pat Halvorson, Kenny Brannon, Mike Moore, and Rex Rutter. We are also looking forward to the return of some of our new drivers, such as Corky Broughton, Rick Spann, Shawn Spann, and Cindy Ford. We appreciate the positive feedback we have been getting for the last four years from the fans and the track owners, promoters, and staff. Please check our schedule for all our upcoming events. We encourage everyone who enjoys local, grass roots stock car racing to come out and support not only the Kentucky Vintage Racing series, but also the race tracks in your area to help promote a healthy racing future.

Richardson's #261 Car Breaks Moore's Winning Streak

KVRA stars met up with the Alabama gang at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tennessee on Saturday night, July 24th. It was an awesome night at Thunderhill Raceway Saturday night, despite record-breaking temperatures. Corky Broughton won his first race in the KVRA series by winning heat race number one. Tony Simmons won heat race number two, holding off Matt Moore in the #37 car. Matt was excited he was able to hold off his dad, KVRA's president, Mark Moore, to take the second spot in heat number two. The feature race was an intense battle between #261 Tony Simmons and #33 Mark Moore. Tony started on the pole and lead most of the way. Mark was able to pass Tony on about lap number six and led that lap, but Tony passed him again on the next lap and led the remainder of the laps. Simmons won by about two car lengths over Moore. Special thanks to Wayne Burns and his staff at the Thunderhill Raceway facility. KVRA Stars Visit Kentucky Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranch

On Wednesday, July 21, 2010, two of KVRA's stars visited the Kentucky Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranch in Gilbertsville, Kentucky. Matt Moore and Corky Broughton of Murray, Kentucky showed off the 1937 Pontiac, driven by Matt Moore to the boys at the sheriff's ranch. Matt even did a little bit of an exhibition driving show in the grass for the kids. The response from the boys was great, and Matt and Corky did a great job sharing some facts about racing in general, how KVRA works, and about the #37 vintage race car. Special thanks to Matt and Corky for donating their time and effort for this great cause.

KVRA's Schedule Has Changed

The Duck River race scheduled for July 24th has been changed to August 28th due to the track being temporarily closed. We will be running at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tennessee on July 24th. Another Victory for Moore

The stars of Kentucky Vintage were back at Paducah International Raceway on July 9th. Due to some rain and cloud cover, the track was fast and in excellent condition for racing. Pat Halvorson took the early lead in heat race number one and went on to win. Heat race number two was a battle between Dave Davidson, Dennis English, Matt Moore, and Mark Moore. Mark Moore took the win after starting in the rear. The feature race was even more intense with KVRA's president Mark Moore of Murray, Kentucky starting in the third row and battling his way to victory, making a last lap pass on the outside of Dave Davidson. This was probably the best action of the night at PIR. We appreciate everyone driving clean and respecting their fellow competitors. Moore Continues Winning Streak

KVRA participants met again at Clarksville Saturday night, July 3rd. Matt Moore of Murray, Kentucky picked up the win in heat race number one. Brian Steele won heat race number two. Sparks flew during the fireworks show and also in KVRA's feature event. Brian Steele had something break in the W4 Weaver Motorsports entry and a huge crash ensued in turn one. Rex Rutter in the W3 ended up on top of Steele's car with five other cars involved in the incident. The 37, 1, 40, 42, and the W3 were able to continue in the race. Steele's W4 was not able to finish the event. Mark Moore of Murray, Kentucky moved into the number one position after the wreck and led the rest of the way, continuing his winning streak. Some of KVRA's best came out Friday night, June 25th at Paducah International Raceway to do battle. Pat Halvorson in the 61 machine battled with Kenny Brannon's 88 car to win heat race number one. KVRA's president did it one more time and inches by Dave Davidson's 16 car from Henderson, Kentucky to take the win in heat race number two. Mark Moore continued his winning streak by winning the feature race after battling with Dave Davidson and Rex Rutter. KRVA Top Dogs Battle in Missouri

KVRA participants put on an awesome show at Thundercity Speedway in Doniphan, Missouri Saturday night, June 19th. Matt Moore took the win in heat race number one. Mark Moore came from the rear in heat race number two and just got by the W3's Rex Rutter on the last lap to take the win. Matt Moore of Murray, Kentucky came out on top, winning the 20 lap feature race number one. Mark Moore won feature face number two in a hard-fought battle with #42, Dennis English, and the W4's Brian Steele. Steele passed Moore (who had led the entire way) on lap 18, but Moore used a crossover move and passed Steele back to seal the victory. Not one fan was sitting down as this battle came to an end. The W3's Rex Rutter of Madisonville, Kentucky was in the mix until brake problems took him out of the event. Thanks to Rick and all his staff at Thundercity Speedway for their hospitality. Also a special thanks to all of KVRA's participants and fans who help make these events such a success. We will see you at Paducah International Raceway next Friday, June 25th.
