CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- KVRA raced at William Scogin's ¼-mile Clarksville Speedway four times in the first 10 races of this season, but have not been back for nearly two months. The series returns to Clarksville tonight.
The most recent visit was June 6, and it was a significant race - the 50th in the history of Kentucky Vintage Racing Association. Chad Fritsche scored his first career victory in that race. Fritsche drives the No. 40 Moore Motorsports entry, a 1940 Chevy coupe-bodied car.
NOTEBOOK: In six KVRA events at Clarksville, including two last season, five different drivers have won features this year. Henderson, Ky.'s Dave Davidson, who has won eight races this year and 16 in his KVRA career, won here April 25 in a feature that was rained out April 18 and again on May 9. ...
KVRA founder and president Mark Moore of Murray has won two straight features, July 17 at Camden (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and last Friday night at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway. As a consequence, Moore will have to start at the back of the pack in his heat race and the feature tonight. That will make it difficult for Moore to score his first win at Clarksville. The series' winningest driver with 22 career victories, Moore has won three races this year in the No. 33 orange and silver 1933 Chevy coupe. ...
Weaver Motorsports' Rex Rutter and Brian Steele will look for their second victories at Clarksville. Rutter, of Madisonville, won Oct. 4, 2008, in the No. W3 1947 Chevy, and Steele scored his first victory April 25 of this year. ...
KVRA's own "Alabama Gang" will be back in force tonight. The father-son pair of Larry Bailey and Jason Bailey of Athens, Ala., will be joined by Tom Richardson, also of Athens, who will drive his No. 261 1933 Plymouth sedan. It's the first time the car has been back in action since an April 14 accident at Richardson's shop that left regular driver Roger Brewer of Tuscumbia, Ala., paralyzed from the waist down. Brewer is expected to be on hand tonight, and the 54-year-old veteran fully expects to be back behind the wheel with hand controls in the near future. Larry Bailey will be in the familiar No. 89, a 1933 Chevy sedan usually driven this year by Johnny Moran, and Jason Bailey will drive his No. 29, a 1929 Ford coupe. ...
Thanks to Clarksville Speedway for having us as part of their program.
NEXT ACTION: KVRA has a Friday-Saturday double-header on tap next weekend, at Paducah on Friday and at Duck River Speedway in Wheel, Tenn., Saturday night.
