PADUCAH, Ky. - Dave Davidson and Mark Moore logged another chapter in the story of their Kentucky Vintage Racing Association rivalry Friday night at Paducah International Raceway, with Davidson holding off Moore's challenges to win the 10-lap feature.
In the series' appearance at the 3/8-mile high-banked oval on July 24, Moore had out-dueled Davidson to get his first win of the season at PIR and break a tie for most wins at the Paducah track. Davidson's victory Friday pulled him even with Moore, each with nine wins.
It was also Davidson's ninth victory of this season, and it was his hardest-fought win. Moore was able to pull alongside on several occasions.
Davidson took the lead from his pole starting spot and never surrendered it, but he never had a chance to relax, either.
"That was fun," Davidson said. "He (Moore) kept the pressure on. I saw his front tires a couple of times."
Moore spun out on the final turn and ended up fifth. Weaver Motorsports teammates Rex Rutter and Brian Steele were second and third, with Luke Rutter fourth.
"We were coming up on a lapped car, and I thought I might have a chance to get by him," Moore said. "I went in too hard. I chased it and chased it, but couldn't catch it."
Moore recovered and cruised on to the finish line, narrowly edging a charging Chad Fritsche at the flag.
Luke Rutter won the first heat and Davidson took the second heat.
