Another PIR victory for Davidson

PADUCAH, Ky. - Dave Davidson overcame a treacherous, dry-slick racetrack and won his seventh Kentucky Vintage Racing Association feature victory of the season at Paducah International Raceway Friday night.

It was also Davidson's 10th win of the season and his 10th win overall at the 3/8-mile PIR oval. His chief rival, Mark Moore - who has nine wins at PIR and leads Davidson 23-18 in overall career victories - finished second, but every driver's primary opponent was the track.

CAMDEN, Tenn. - Mark Moore's resurgence after a slow start to the season continued Friday night when he led from start to finish and won the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association feature at Camden Motor Speedway.

It was the 23rd victory for Moore, the KVRA founder and president, his fifth of the year and his fourth in the last six races.

WHEEL, Tenn. - Mark Moore prevailed in a back-and-forth tussle with Craig Howard to win Saturday night's 15-lap Kentucky Vintage Racing Association feature at Duck River Speedway, the south central Tennessee ¼-mile banked dirt oval nicknamed "Ducktona."

It was a reversal of fortune for Moore, on two counts. He finished second to Howard's father, Ozzie, in last year's KVRA visit to Duck River, and he came up short in a battle against Dave Davidson in the first feature of this two-race weekend Friday night at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway.

Davidson holds off Moore at PIR

PADUCAH, Ky. - Dave Davidson and Mark Moore logged another chapter in the story of their Kentucky Vintage Racing Association rivalry Friday night at Paducah International Raceway, with Davidson holding off Moore's challenges to win the 10-lap feature.

In the series' appearance at the 3/8-mile high-banked oval on July 24, Moore had out-dueled Davidson to get his first win of the season at PIR and break a tie for most wins at the Paducah track. Davidson's victory Friday pulled him even with Moore, each with nine wins.

It was also Davidson's ninth victory of this season, and it was his hardest-fought win. Moore was able to pull alongside on several occasions.

It was the second career victory for Steele, both of the wins coming this year at the ¼-mile Clarksville oval.

"They've got a heck of a track," Steele said after posing for victory photos outside Turn 1. "The old car was working good."

Track announcer Eddie Campbell interviewed several drivers and fans and also had a chat with Roger Brewer, a KVRA competitor who was sidelined early this season because of an off-track accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- KVRA raced at William Scogin's ¼-mile Clarksville Speedway four times in the first 10 races of this season, but have not been back for nearly two months. The series returns to Clarksville tonight.

The most recent visit was June 6, and it was a significant race - the 50th in the history of Kentucky Vintage Racing Association. Chad Fritsche scored his first career victory in that race. Fritsche drives the No. 40 Moore Motorsports entry, a 1940 Chevy coupe-bodied car.
