CAMDEN, Tenn. - A frustrating season took a positive turn for Mark Moore Friday night when he led from start to finish and won the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association feature at Camden Motor Speedway.
It was the 21st victory for Moore, the KVRA founder and president, but only his second of 2009. The other victory came April 17 at Camden.
The next night, at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway, Moore's No. 33 suffered severe front-end damage in a crash. After repairs were completed, the car that had won 18 of 40 races the past two seasons was an evil-handling beast.
But Moore was all smiles Friday.
"I think it's better than it's ever been," he said. "It was pretty enjoyable. I could put it just about anywhere I wanted."
Chad Fritsche was second, with James Scott, Richard Hall and Jason Schmidt rounding out the top five.
Schmidt and Moore were heat race winners.
The season's dominant driver, eight-time winner Dave Davidson, did not compete. Three-time KVRA feature winner Rex Rutter, normally piloting the No. W3 Weaver Motorsports 1947 Chevy, substituted in a Moore Motorsports car, the No. C9 1932 Chevy. The yellow coupe was sidelined by a broken drive shaft in the first heat and Rutter was unable to make the feature.
His son, Luke, made his first KVRA start in another Moore-owned car. He finished second after a spirited battle with Schmidt in the first heat and took seventh in the feature.

The past two scheduled events at the 3/8-mile Camden oval have been rained out, but Friday evening was dry and pleasant.
