Mike Moore takes Thunderhill win

SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. - Mike Moore took the lead on the fourth lap and went on to claim a hard-fought victory in the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association 15-lap feature at Thunderhill Raceway Saturday night.

He took command from his brother, Mark, who led the first three laps from the pole but slipped to third place at the finish. Rookie James Scott took the runner-up spot, with Jason Bailey and Steve Alexander rounding out the top five.

The winner drove the No. 40, a red 1940 Chevrolet coupe, owned by his brother. It was the third victory of the season for the car, which is usually driven by Chad Fritsche.

Bailey, who won his first KVRA feature in the series' visit here May 30, was part of a tightly contested fight for the top four spots until he spun coming off Turn 2 of the ninth lap.

It was the second career victory for Moore, who drove the No. 40 car to second place in the May 30 race won by Bailey.

Roger Brewer made his first visit to a race since he was seriously injured in an off-track accident April 14. Brewer, 54, is a veteran racer with a track championship title to his credit at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tenn., in 2006. He began racing in KVRA events in 2007, the series' first year.

The Moore brothers battled for victory in the second heat, with younger brother Mark taking the win by a nose. Alexander won the first heat, holding off a last-lap charge by Johnny Moran which ended in Turn 4 when Moran's 1933 Chevy sedan made contact with Alexander's 1937 Pontiac, breaking the front axle on Moran's car.

The program wrapped up a two-night weekend for KVRA, which competed Friday night at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway. The next event on the schedule is Friday night at Camden (Tenn.) Motor Speedway
