SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. -- Kentucky Vintage Racing Association's coupes and sedans return to Wayne and Carol Burns' Thunderhill Raceway tonight for their second visit of the year. The series competed last night at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway, where Dave Davidson was the winner.
Alabama driver Jason Bailey scored his first KVRA victory in the series' first visit to Thunderhill this year on May 30. He and teammate Johnny Moran, both of Athens, Ala., are both expected to compete in tonight's program.
Absent from the action will be veteran Roger Brewer, another Alabama driver, who suffered serious injuries in a freak accident at car owner Tom Richardson's race shop April 14. We wish Roger and Tom the best and hope to see them back at the track soon. ...
KVRA visited Thunderhill May 3 and July 3 of last season. Ozzie Howard and Dave Davidson were the winners of those two races. Howard has not competed in any KVRA events this year, but Davidson is the circuit's hottest driver, with eight victories in the first 14 races of the year. ... Davidson, of Henderson, Ky., drives the maroon and white No. 16, with a 1933 Plymouth sedan body. He also won an unsanctioned race May 23 at Soggy Bottom Raceway in Morgantown, Ky. He is not expected to compete tonight ...
Mark Moore, founder and president of KVRA, is the series' winningest driver with 20 career feature wins, but he has won only once so far this year and he is still looking for his first victory at Thunderhill. Moore, of Murray, Ky., drives the No. 33 orange and silver 1934 Chevy coupe. He posted a third-place finish at Paducah last night. ...
KVRA surpassed the 50-race milestone earlier this year, on June 6 at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway. Chad Fritsche scored his first career victory, making a last-lap pass when the brakes failed on Moore's No. 33. Fritsche, of Puryear, Tenn., is the regular driver of the Moore Motorsports No. 40, a 1940 Chevrolet coupe. The car will be driven tonight by Mike Moore of Newburgh, Ind.
