Fritsche claims first KVRA feature win

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Chad Fritsche took the lead from Mark Moore on the final lap and won the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association feature Saturday night at Clarksville Speedway.

Moore, the KVRA president and founder, had led from the pole in the 12-lap event but the brakes failed on his No. 33 on the final lap. His car veered upward as the two exited Turn 2 and made contact with Fritsche, who was attempting a pass on the outside.

The impact broke the right front suspension on Moore's 1933 Chevy coupe.

"That's not the way I wanted to win a race," Fritsche said. "I thought the two of us were going to have a great side by side battle for the checkered flag off the fourth turn."

Richard Hall, who spun to avoid Moore's disabled car, was awarded second place as the race was flagged official. Dave Davidson, who had to start at the back of the 11-car field, finished third.

Fritsche started on the front row beside Moore, who won the second heat. He chased the leader relentlessly, keeping pace by running a high line with his 1940 Chevy coupe. He was able to challenge for the front position twice, pulling alongside the leader, but Moore maintained his lead by sticking to the inside line.

"I lost the brakes on the last lap, going into Turn 1," said Moore.

Pat Halvorson, who won the first heat, finished fourth. Richard Cook rounded out the top five. Moore ended up sixth.

KVRA returns to action at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway Friday.
