Bailey gets first KVRA victory

TR-05309_Jason Bailey.jpgSUMMERTOWN, Tenn. - Jason Bailey found an opening between brothers Mark and Mike Moore, took the lead by driving through the hole coming off Turn 2 of the second lap, and went on to win the 12-lap feature at Thunderhill Raceway Saturday night.

It was the first KVRA victory for Bailey, who drives a No. 29 1929 Ford coupe. But it was his second win of the season, the first coming in a non-KVRA event May 16 at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala.

The victory came just hours after Bailey and other KVRA drivers made a pass through the grandstands seeking donations from fans for injured driver Roger Brewer. They netted $374.

Bailey's six-cylinder engine has been competitive with the V8s used by most KVRA drivers, and Saturday night, it was more than equal to the task. Bailey, who spun out of second place in the second heat race while chasing eventual winner Mark Moore, did not bobble in the feature after taking command with his through-the-middle move.

He took the checkered flag about a car length in front of Mike Moore. Joe Beard got past Mark Moore for third on the eighth lap, and held onto the position. James Scott rounded out the top five.

Matt Moore, Mark Moore's son, won the first heat.

The program wrapped up a two-night weekend for KVRA, which competed Friday night at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway. The next event on the schedule is Saturday night at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway
