NEBO, Ky. - Odds are that Dave Davidson wins the odd-numbered races on the KVRA schedule this year. So far, Davidson is four-for-four.

The Henderson, Ky., driver claimed his fourth victory of 2009 Saturday night with a dusty cruise at Western Kentucky Speedway. He won the season opener at Paducah, and has won the third, fifth and, now, seventh races.

He led from green to checkered in his No. 16 1933 Plymouth sedan, but Mark Moore nipped at his heels most of the way before settling for second by a half car length.

For the second night in a row, drivers had to cope with treacherous track conditions. The Nebo 3/8-mile was dusty and rutted throughout the program and a heavy cushion of loose dirt at the top of the turns snagged cars like a truck run-off on a mountain road.

"It was rough," Davidson said. "That track was getting rough."

KVRA's two winningest drivers started on the front row. Davidson, on the pole, took a narrow advantage over Moore at the outset, with Weaver Racing teammates Brian Steele and Josh Throgmorton in pursuit.

The two straight-axle cars took the low groove and edged ahead of the Weaver cars, built on dirt late model chassis. Moore was able to put the nose of his car underneath Davidson on several occasions, but could advance no farther.

"I was just waiting for him to make a mistake," Moore said.

"I could hear him," Davidson said with a grin.

Chad Fritsche rounded out the top five. Joe Beard, Jamie Hilton, Johnny Case, Matt Moore and James Scott were sixth through 10th.

Beard and Davidson won heat races. Beard made a last-lap, last-turn pass of Scott, whose No. 3 1936 Chevy pushed into the cushion in Turn 4. The high-piled, loose, dry dirt slowed his momentum and Beard gunned his No. 38 1938 Chevy past on the inside.

Davidson started on the pole and led all the way in the second heat, with Mark Moore, Throgmorton and Steele in a fierce three-way fight for second. Moore edged Throgmorton by inches, with Steele close behind.

The race completed a two-night weekend for the vintage coupes and sedans. Throgmorton was the winner Friday night at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway.

The series is idle for the Memorial Day holiday weekend and returns to action May 29 at Paducah, with a May 30 date at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tenn.
