CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Approximately two dozen car owners, drivers and others attended a meeting Saturday, Jan. 24, at Ryan's Steakhouse to discuss the new season.

Kentucky Vintage Racing Association founder and president Mark Moore thanked competitors for their support of the series, which was established in 2007 and quickly grew to a 25-race schedule last year.

As many as 30 or 35 races could be held this season at various tracks in Kentucky, Tennessee and possibly in other neighboring states.

Few changes are in store, according to the rules package presented to competitors.

"With the success we've had, we must be doing something right," Moore said. "We believe our non-restrictive rules have helped make this series attractive to more car owners and drivers.

The series will operate as an invitational league this year, with members in good standing from last year already having received invitations to compete. Others wishing to take part in the series should contact Moore or race director David Green for information.

During Saturday's meeting, driver/owner Larry Bailey of Athens, Ala., was recognized as winner of the sportsman-ship award for 2008. The honor was to have been announced at the series awards banquet, but the prize - a cotton twill jacket with custom embroidery, donated by Sunoco Race Fuels distributor Mid West Terminal of Paducah, Ky., was not completed in time.

First-year driver Chad Fritsche of Puryear, Tenn., also received a jacket honoring him as the series' most improved driver. Fritsche, who was unable to attend the meeting, had received his jacket earlier this month.

The 2009 season is slated to begin April 3 at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway.
